Motorola’s European marketing director James King recently made the following announcement of the Milestone getting the Froyo update in near future:
Next European Milestone and 2.2 (Froyo). I have expressed over the last few days that the decision is pending. The team here has been collating key pieces of information and views from this community in the last month and providing input to relevant teams in Motorola so they are aware. I am pushing for that decision to be made as quickly as possible, and we can then all go from there. Some others ask why the decisions on upgrades take so long, and why does implementation then take much longer still. What I can say and have stated recently is that upgrades are not a walk in the park.
Sure there are short cuts that people can take, but when you have to integrate software to a specific hardware, then test it and integrate with third party applications, let alone any innovation from ourselves, plus then get approvals to make this all official and safe… its is a big undertaking that requires planning and resource and third party coordination to see this all through. As I say, once we have decision, we will inform. JK
This said, we, Milestone Owners are bullied again and again. The dream of having a decent bugless and high performance Motorola phone is vanishing. There still aren’t any straight decision from Motorola but let’s not get too much hope in order to avoid any further deception from being cheated by the Apple like company…
The right hopes are now:
What I suggest for the time being:
From the time I read a statement from Motorola about Milestone Froyo update (in my next post), I decided to do something worth with my “Rock” (read “Stone” ^.^’).
Well I was impatiently waiting for the next huge OTA, but I couldn’t get bullied and be disappointed anymore. I rooted my Milestone and overclocked it to frequency 800 MHz!
For the root, I used this French guide: http://forum.frandroid.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=10022
For overclocking the Stone, just Google it!
Exactly! That’s what I like to hear! You might think this kind of words might possibly come out only from a geek like me but this ain’t even a guy! It’s from my sweet girl who normally ain’t interested in that kind of technology goodies at all… That’s what I call the Android effect! Done by The Samsung Galaxy S!
I was gone for an HTC Desire, that only Android device that made it over the Nexus One in Europe. I knew the Samsung Galaxy S was going to roll out to the phone market but I wouldn’t think it would roll out so early in July. After some lucky guess, it happened to me that I decided to try some cellular shop where it showed a model of the newest Samsung. Thins is: they had two 8gb model in their backroom! And then? Well I got one of them with a Swisscom 2-year data plan for 169.90CHF. This wasn’t just a deal, this was the deal! And the deal goes to my lucky girl!!
Happy anniversary sweet Erica!
PS: I keep my Motorola Milestone hoping the Froyo system update will soon come out! ^-^v
There are lots of home replacements I have been trying for weeks, none of them were plenty satisfying: laggy, crap design, paid version, no update… A month ago LauncherPro came out from nowhere with a beta version that rules out all the other choices.
No lag at all and I should say it once again: it flies! I have to say it’s even smoother than the iPhone. Fully customizable, coolest features ever like the scrollable dock bar for shortcuts, 3D app drawer and it gets updates at least twice a week! You can’t ask more but LauncherPro gives you more than what you actually dare to expect: it’s free!
Download it on the Android Market or on the official website: www.launcherpro.com
A note written for the Swiss Android owners, especially the below-26 Swisscom customers. Those who tried to pump out the 500 free sms from XtraZone might need to read this.
Till now Android users were jealous of an iPhone app.. yes you heard it, it’s possible! And actually it’s not possible anymore thanks to Martin Zimmerman, a swiss developper that has built the coolest swiss application ever: XtraSMS!
You can directly text your pals through XtraSMS without loosing your time on your browser and typing thousands of login forms anymore! All you have to do is to enter your Xtra-Liberty contracted number (phone number) and send one of your half-thousand free sms to whatever contact in Switzerland!
Try it now and don’t forget to support the developper if you like XtraSMS by donating =)
Since I directly mail Motorola due to all the famous bugs, I’ve been waiting for their so-called 24-hour reply. They actually failed their customer, me, again.
From another part of our lasting hopes, Hong Kong Milestone owners had the luck to get an update for the built Android 2.1 three weeks ago. It was supposed to be a fix to some of our issues. Actually it’s been rumored that the OTA update might repair the alarm, music player and the speech voice quality issues. I am not sure about the music player or the alarm because I am still using an old trick for the alarm issue, which is to launch the application called Load Monitor (free for download on the market). As for the music player, what I keep doing is while I’m on the music app screen, I turn the sound to the lowest level possible (mute). It happens that the phone being muted isn’t enough to turn off the music player because they use different sound systems.
Talking about the quality of speech during voice call, I have to admit I am very satisfied that I hear no body telling me”Sir I can’t hear you..” anymore! That has been a real fix for my Milestone, at least one for sure!
Biggest trouble is still the reboot. It’s random, it happens almost once a day, and on top of everything, it’s fcuking annoying!
There are rumors surfing on the net saying there will be an update to Android 2.2 Froyo in the following month. Thing is that we are losing hope with the worst customer support service, Motorola..
My AC adapter gave up on me and turned its green light off. After four years of great loyal services, he decided to die and leaving me alone with a no-power notebook. My laptop is a Dell XPS M1210, it has never shown me any sign of weakness for the last four years, and I got to say that this time it’s not his fault cause it’s the an accessory story. Damn it, I can’t even video talk with my girl, can’t access to my homework, to my job timetable, to my favorite streaming software PPLive. Without a computer, a geek is an even more no-life than his usually no-life living.. 50 bucks and a long week to wait for a brand new adapter! Dell, for the first time I have to say you suck!
No need to expatiate details about my long distance relationship.. it’s been two years and it goes well! We’ve been using Skype at least 3 hours a day for the last couple of years. Before you read the next lines, I still want to thank Skype for making things easier between my strawberry and myself. But sometimes Skype sucks! It lags, the voice is not synchronized with the mouth movements, robotic sounds break any romantic words exchange, let me define it like: HELL OF A MESS!!
So what’s the solution? Try the other software, let’s list it: MSN: worse, Gtalk: works once a month, what else? Well blame on your partner living in China: say her internet bandwidth sucks and tell her to change web provider? No! There’s a much better, faster and cooler solution: download QQ from Tencent company! You’re gonna say: Well but it’s all in Chinese! No! it has an English (and even a French) version! And what’s the result with video chatting? The best I have ever seen in two years!
If you love your bear who’s in China, let me help you: download QQ here: http://download.imqq.com/download.shtml
PS: This post has nothing to do with advertisement, it’s a simple advice from kasing, a random guy who would try anything to make things work!
